Data Center Management
Perle underpins Information Technology
an effective IT infrastructure today often depends on accessing, monitoring,
and managing IT equipment remotely. Although some equipment may be
installed in the data centre, the need to support remote offices, factory
floors or other unattended locations, is always important.
While specialist management software can be used for in-band remote monitoring,
some tasks may seemingly be impossible unless the equipment can be physically
accessed. Many devices have a serial port for making configuration changes or
uploading new firmware. Visiting remote equipment cabinets with a serial cable
is often a time-consuming task.
By connecting such IT equipment to the network or providing point-to-point serial
connections, IT managers can help reduce costs and cut downtime by allowing staff
remote access. This anywhere, anytime management strategy enables IT managers
to look after the IT infrastructure pro-actively.
Perle technology bridges the distance between remote IT equipment and technical
support staff. Any device with serial connections can now be networked and managed
remotely - even across the internet. Through Perle Serial Cards, terminal
and console servers, IT managers now have a cost-effective solution to remote

Access and Management of Remote Serial Equipment
Challenge: Allow multiple users to access, manage and power cycle on/off equipment at a remote location.
Solution: Deploy a Perle Remote Power Switch, in conjunction with a Perle IOLAN Console Server. A Console Server can be connected to the console port of any device and allow access via Ethernet to the equipment. By connecting a Perle Remote Power Switch to the Console Server, IT staff are also able to power cycle and power on/off the equipment from a remote location.
Results: Personnel are no longer required required to travel to and from a site in while integrity and security of data being tested and transmitted remains secure.
Consolidating Multiple Servers into a VMWare Environment
Access Control for Personnel Entrances
Challenge: Eliminate multiple access control computers.
Solution: Connecting the card readers over an Ethernet network using a serial device server..
Results: A more secure system and reduced costs through increased efficiencies in employee database management.
Console Management solves
Elsag server farm complexities
Challenge: Reduce the number of
console used to monitor and manage over two hundred
computers in a server room.
Solution: Access servers locally
or remotely via the server console port connected to
a Perle Console Server.
Benefit: The system administrator
can monitor and restore servers from remote locations.
Environmental Monitoring Technology in the Data Centre
Challenge: The physical environment of the ever-growing
data center is of the utmost importance. The precise
conditions must be closely monitored to avoid disasters
that could cause network failure causing the company
huge losses for even a couple of minutes of downtime.
Solution: The IOLAN I/O Device Server, has the ability
to monitor environmental alarms, intrusion detection,
relay contact closures or other pre-defined threshold
levels that could lead to failure and then send alert
notification such as an email.
Benefit: As these alarm notifications are passed
along instantly they pre-empt a failure thereby
saving costs, the administrator’s time and
ultimately the dangers of a data centre outage.

they never go down.
Solution: Connect the COM port of

operate the modems.
Benefit: Via the Perle Terminal Server
a single PC can access, monitor and manage up to 48
GSM modems and keep them up and running 24/7.

Challenge: Managing enterprise
networks with multiple locations remotely effectively.
Solution: Using a Console Server to securely manage
all remote systems via a dial-in or internet access.
Benefit: System Administrators can manage networks
systems remotely regardless of the location which
is more cost effective and increases response times.
