Perle Systems Case Study
Funktel partners with Perle
to provide reliable radio-based security
In 2001, the Mobile Security Communications Division of Tenovis was restructured to form Funktel GmbH. Since then, the innovative radio-based applications, which Funktel produce, have been developed further to great success.
Today, Funktel is the leading partner for business customers in all issues relating to radio-based internal mobile communications, mobile security and Funktel is the market-leader for on-site paging in Germany!
The tailor made radio-based communication systems offered by Funktel include high-coverage internal communication, security systems for people protection, personal emergency signalling and exact location positioning of people.
The Working environment:
People are working in ever increasingly dangerous environments. The technology exists to protect and communicate with personnel, whether they are office based, down a mine or on an offshore oil platform.
For example, using Funktel technology, a security guard working at a high profile pharmaceutical plant can receive randomly generated information to dictate his rounds route via radio communication over a hand held mobile device. This way, the complex is covered accurately and intruders will be unable to rely on the guards always following the same route. Additionally, should the guard be in distress, he is able to trigger an alarm via his hand held device, which details his position accurately in the control room.
Funktel provides customers with a tailored and integrated hardware and software system, including Perle SX Serial Cards. Perle's SX serial cards allow classified devices to be connected to the main server running Windows 2000 in the control room. The drivers for Perle SX serial cards are supplied and certified by Microsoft. "Certification by Microsoft means that the drivers are extraordinarily stable. Drivers from third-party suppliers often create problems which bring the entire server to a standstill." Says Manfred Kurth, Technical Support at Funktel.
Claus-Günther Germer, Funktel Project Manager explains, "There is no doubt that the Perle SX Serial cards are at the higher end of the cost scale, but the quality and technology of them more than compensates for this. These SX serial cards are the most advanced serial cards available on the market. Other serial cards break down – Perle's do not."
Funktel has installed more than 400 Communication systems on customer's premises using the Perle SX Serial card. This number is constantly increasing.
