Some businesses have a tendency to undervalue the internet. They approach it as a tool to support their operations and do not regard it as a key enabler that can generate conversations with consumers and create new growth opportunities. According to a recent Vizcom report, IPv6 could be key to helping companies recognize the many advantages provided by advanced internet tools.

Daniel Robinson, owner of Vizcom Web Design Manchester, explained IPv6 is a clear sign that the internet has evolved into a more pervasive technology that businesses can leverage in a variety of ways. He also said IPv6 adoption is an indicator that the gadgetry used to access the internet is fueling more diverse uses for the technology. Therefore, businesses need to respond by expanding their efforts to use the internet to fuel marketing strategies and customer service intiatives.

"Now it’s important we realize the potential of the internet as an important asset to our businesses," said Robinson. "Within a few short years, the internet will be so integrated into the daily routines of everyone, including your potential customers, it’s essential that you begin now to represent your company online."

The report said IPv6 is a key enabler of the internet's future because the internet is increasingly accessed from a variety of devices, keeping users connected wherever they go. As a result, migrating to IPv6 is critical for businesses because it allows them to reach consumers who will soon be adopting state-of-the-art devices based on the IPv6 protocol.

Robinson said taking advantage of IPv6 to reach a wider range of customers is especially important for small businesses. He explained that many small business owners tend to look at the internet as a basic tool to host a website and facilitate business processes. In doing so, they neglect to recognize the internet's potential as a customer service and interaction tool that can generate new leads and fuel expansion.

While many businesses have gotten a slow start on IPv6 adoption, the recent World IPv6 Day event could fuel more rapid migration. A recent CNET report explains the event was so successful that many businesses are keeping their IPv6 services up even after the day's conclusion. Furthermore, other companies noticed how well the event went and are hastening their IPv6 adoption, the report said.
