SVi Digital uses Perle IRG Routers to Enable Outdoor Digital Transit Advertising
PRINCETON, N.J. (January 08, 2026): In a groundbreaking innovation for the advertising industry, SVi Digital has successfully tested the first real-time digital out-of-home (DOOH) ads on moving transit buses, using Perle IRG Cellular Routers.
For decades, bus-side advertising has relied on static posters. That’s changing. Bright, dynamic digital screens can now display ads that update in real time as buses travel along their routes. This advancement, using unique and patented screen technology, opens the door to powerful contextual advertising, where ads can adapt instantly to time, weather, traffic, or location. Imagine ads for umbrellas during a thunderstorm, or for luxury goods as buses pass through an upscale shopping district.
The Connectivity Challenge
Streaming high-resolution ads to moving vehicles requires more than an LED display. It demands a rugged, secure, and reliable connectivity backbone. Transit environments are harsh, with constant vibration, rough terrain, and fluctuating network conditions. After evaluating several IoT devices, SVi Digital determined they could not meet these demands.
SVi Digital chose Perle IRG 5G Routers, designed for automotive and transportation deployments, for their military-grade durability and advanced security features that could deliver:
- High-speed 5G with 4G LTE fallback for seamless streaming.
- MIL-STD-810G shock and vibration resistance and IP54-rated aluminum housing for durability.
- Advanced security with over 30 features, including VPN support and encryption.
- Integrated GPS for real-time location tracking.
At Perle, we believe connectivity should never come with hidden costs. Our IRG Cellular Routers are built for rugged environments and include all features, security updates, and software enhancements without annual subscription or license fees. This ensures customers like SVi Digital can innovate freely without worrying about recurring costs or locked functionality.
Proven Results
In a proof-of-concept deployment, buses in Belfast have been streaming ads from a central production facility in London without interruption since 2023. Although the technology is sophisticated, the setup is simple. Ads are streamed over a cellular network to an IRG 5G Router on a bus. The router connects via an Ethernet port to a micro-PC, which connects to digital screens on the bus exterior.
Routers are obviously a key part of the whole communications package. As far as the IRG 5G Routers are concerned, they've been stable from day one. No complaints whatsoever. A gold star.
This marks a significant milestone for DOOH advertising, paving the way for scalable, sustainable, and highly targeted campaigns on public transit worldwide. The potential market size for the technology is enormous, mainly because it is so adaptable and affordable.

Dynamic bus advertising is more than eye-catching. It’s targeted, flexible, and sustainable. Ads can change instantly, reducing waste and enabling advertisers to reach specific audiences in real time. For transit authorities, it creates new revenue streams while enhancing community engagement.
