The data center network is changing. Instead of focusing on building basic networks to support business operations, organizations are increasingly finding that their network infrastructure needs to enable better business processes, especially in light of cloud computing, mobile strategies and other emerging technologies that put more demand on the network. According to a recent Cabling Installation & Maintenance report, the new role of networking solutions is leading to more complex deployments within the data center and more demand for intelligent management solutions.

The news source explained that organizations working to overcome the rising complexity of data center network deployments need to turn to intelligent management technologies that go beyond the physical layer of the setup. Solutions that allow structured cabling and data center network engineers to better manage and control the physical layer of the network have been around for a while, but bringing intelligent management beyond that level is becoming more important.

Initially, these management capabilities focused on patch panel and patch cable infrastructure, as they were in vogue when these tools first became prominent. The intelligence of the systems were limited to identifying when a patch panel was improperly accessed, such as being unplugged or inserted into the incorrect slot, making it much easier to identify issues within the network, the report said.

However, the network has changed considerably since the initial introduction of intelligent management systems, with demand for solutions that move beyond the physical layer bringing about this change. The news source explained that such tools can now interact with almost every element of the physical network to identify how infrastructure is connected and any flaws in the setup. Furthermore, the management platform can also analyze various underlying patterns within the network, beyond the core physical design, and use that data to provide key information about operating conditions regarding the system.

As network complexity increases in the data center, the power of the network also rises. An advanced network setup can be combined with console server systems to allow for remote management of a data center. This gives IT the ability to use the network as a conduit for managing facilities and servers from a central location instead of having to physically travel to data centers in geographically diverse region.

Perle’s wide range of 1 to 48 port Perle Console Servers provide data center managers and network administrators with secure remote management of any device with a serial console port. Plus, they are the only truly fault tolerant Console Servers on the market with the advanced security functionality needed to easily perform secure remote data center management and out-of-band management of IT assets from anywhere in the world.
