Smart Surveillance is Killing The Job Market for Thieves

All jokes aside, the IoT is evolving the security and surveillance industry, making it much easier to keep your property safe.

Smart surveillance and IoT technologies are growing rapidly, with a number of benefits such as convenience, cost savings and, of course, improved security. These technologies allow you to monitor your business or residential property remotely, giving you a real-time opportunity to check on the condition of your home when you're not there. IoT can help eliminate the chances of losing valuable personal or business assets – and even the data of your customers.

Smart security video cameras also allow for live streaming, which can be helpful in situations where you need to quickly communicate with someone. Furthermore, smart surveillance works in tandem with smart homes (such as doorbell cameras) to ensure you always know what's happening at any given time.

To maximize the full ability of IoT devices in the surveillance industry, smart devices can also improve safety by improving lighting in areas that aren't well-lit and having them turn on or even alert another security device when movement is detected. Additionally, IoT devices have become increasingly more affordable than traditional security cameras because they're generally smaller and consume less energy than their larger counterparts.

From Bluetooth and non-IP based tech to all-in IP IoT

Prior to the rise and reign of IoT technology, most surveillance systems were predicated on the acceptance that IP (internet protocol) was the best option for managing security – much better than non-internet wireless options such as Bluetooth. Eventually, as high-speed and mobile internet (5G) became more mainstream, the industry was led to consider IoT as a major focus. Add in cloud-based software that allows you to store, share and analyze data from anywhere in the world, and there's an open doorway to the "perfect" security system.

The future of IoT in the surveillance industry is evolving rapidly, with new technologies and capabilities making it easier for customers – from businesses to ordinary consumers – to monitor their environments.

One of the most interesting developments is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve video analytics and provide real-time alerts. This technology can help identify potential threats, such as a person walking through a restricted area or a vehicle parked on private property. It can also be used to provide insight into traffic patterns and monitor occupancy rates in buildings.

AI will also play an important role in developing more sophisticated security systems that are able to learn and adapt over time, making them more difficult for criminals to exploit. It's interesting to find out just how security will develop with the revolution of AI in our day-to-day lives.

Can smart security devices be hacked?

Some security devices have been found to have security flaws that could allow hackers to access them. In other cases, especially if the devices aren't secured properly by the manufacturer.

The more information these devices collect about their users, the more vulnerable they become to hacking. The best way we can prevent this is by educating consumers about their security risks and giving them cybersecurity tools and resources on how to manage the data their devices collect.
