Jeff Shilt, Senior Network Engineer at Gateway Fiber, initially considered using Cisco terminal servers paired with LTE routers but found the solution to be prohibitively expensive. With integrated cellular connectivity, the Perle IOLAN Console Servers offered a more cost-effective and efficient alternative. The IOLAN Console Server gives the ultimate back door connectivity,
says Shilt. When we have had a fiber cut or we lose access, we come in via the LTE and use the serial console ports to get into our equipment.
Enhanced Maintenance and Upgrades
The IOLAN Console Servers also streamline maintenance and hardware upgrades. Shilt explains, When we must do firmware updates, we can access the equipment via an LTE interface, as if we were physically there. This makes the process easier and safer.
Additionally, during on-site hardware upgrades, engineers can remotely guide field technicians, reducing the time and travel cost associated with these operations.
